META SCHOOLS 2024

GENERAL RULES

  1. META Schools 2024 will feature workshops and contests in the writing, quizzing, art and performance categories.

  2. The workshops and contests will be held on Saturday, 24 August 2024 at St. Joseph’s University, Langford Road, Bangalore. (See address below)

  3. The Quiz and Spelling Bee will be held on Friday, 30th August 2024 at the same venue.

  4. All of the contests listed (with the exception of JAM) will feature two categories—Junior (Std VIII-X) and Senior (XI & XII/PUC)

  5. Registration for workshops on 24th August is free but limited to the first 25 participants to enroll.

  6.  Please use the form links provided at www.metajosephs.in to enroll for workshops by 23rd August 2024

  7. Participating institutions may either pay an Institutional Registration fee (Rs. 500/-) entitling them to field an unlimited number of teams/participants OR an Event Registration fee (Rs. 50/-) per entry for contests of their choice.

  8. Please confirm participation in contests from your institution by filling the Google form at  www.metajosephs.in before 23 August 2024.

  9. Registration fees can be paid in cash/UPI at the counters on 24 August 2024.

  10. Teams/participants must carry valid identification from the institution.

  11. Participants/teams must report to the Reception Desk in the Auditorium Block on Langford Road, following which they will be directed to the venues.

  12. Reporting time for workshops and contests on 24 August 2024 is 9.00 am. Events will conclude by 1 pm.

  13. Reporting time for the quiz and spelling bee on 30th September is 9.00 am. Events will conclude by 1 pm,

  14. Prizes and certificates will be awarded separately for Junior and Senior levels.

  15. The decision of the judges will be final and binding on all participants.

Directions: From Vittal Mallya Road/Mallya Hospital, turn right at Richmond Circle, and take the left at the signal for Langford Road | From MG Road, come down Brigade Road, turn left at Wood Street before All Saints/Vellara Junction and then right to reach Richmond Road, continue down Richmond Road to take the left at Richmond Circle (under flyover), and turn left at signal for Langford Road | From Double Road/KH Road, come down Double Road, and take the right under the flyover at the Lalbagh Road-Double Road intersection to reach Langford Road | From Hosur Road, turn left at Berlie Street, near the cemetery, and continue till you reach the signal, turn left into Langford Road, and go past the Hockey Stadium for St. Joseph’s University.

WRITING EVENT

Fandom Menace 

An on-the-spot fan-fiction contest for individual participants

Unlimited entries in Junior and Senior categories

Participants will be given a starting paragraph which they must use to produce and complete a story featuring known fictional/literary characters.

Contest date: 24 August 2024 (9:30AM – 10:30AM, De Nobili Hall)

ART EVENT

Mujhe Zine Do! Zine-making Contest

Teams of two

Unlimited entries in Junior and Senior categories

Participants must make an 8-page zine with text and pictures

Participants must work on the zine by hand.

Paper will be provided. Participants must bring their own writing/ drawing materials.

Participants may bring glue, scissors, newspapers, magazines if they wish to use cut-outs in zines.

Contest date: 24 August 2024. (11:30 AM – 12:30 PM, Loyola Hal)

SPEAKING EVENT

Just A Minute

Open only to students of Std. XI-XII/PUC (Seniors only)

JAM will be conducted in English on the BBC format.

Participants will speak on without hesitation, repetition or deviation on an assigned topic within a minute amid challenges from other contestants.

Institutions may field a maximum of two participants.

Prior registration essential. Registrations will be closed after 12 entries are received.

Contest date: 24 August 2024 (10 AM-11.30 PM, Faber Hall)

PUZZLING CONTEST

Teams of two

Unlimited entries in Junior and Senior categories

Participants must solve a set of easy and cryptic puzzles

Contest date: 24 August 2024. ( 12:30 PM–1.00 PM, Aloysius Hall)
